This guide shows you how to download, install and activate Microsoft Office 2024 Professional Plus on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, using the official installer from Microsoft's servers. Office 2024 Professional Plus is Windows only. For a Mac, choose Office 2024 Home & Business for PC or Mac.
Step 1: Remove Older Office Versions
Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, search for "Office" and uninstall any Microsoft 365, Office 2021, 2019, 2016 or trial versions. Different versions installed side by side are the most common cause of "product key isn't valid" errors. Restart your PC afterwards.
Step 2: Download the Official Installer
Download the Office 2024 Professional Plus installer image (English) directly from Microsoft's content delivery network. The file is called ProPlus2024Retail.img and is about 4 GB. Step 3: Mount the Image and Run Setup
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click ProPlus2024Retail.img. Windows mounts it as a new DVD drive under This PC.
- Open the new drive and double-click Setup.exe. Click Yes on the User Account Control prompt.
- Setup installs all apps automatically. Wait for "You're all set! Office is installed now" and click Close.
Step 4: Activate With Your Product Key
- Open Word from the Start menu. If an activation window appears, choose Enter product key instead. Otherwise go to File → Account → Change Product Key.
- Type the 25-character key from your order email and click Activate Office. Activation happens online in a few seconds.
- Check File → Account. It should show "Product Activated — Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2024". Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Access are activated at the same time.

After Activation: First Steps
- Install updates: in any Office app, go to File → Account → Update Options → Update Now.
- Set up Outlook: add your email under File → Add Account.
