This guide shows you how to download, install and activate Windows 11 Pro, whether you're setting up a new PC, doing a clean install, or upgrading an existing Windows 11 Home installation. It takes 20–40 minutes for a clean install and about 10 minutes for a Home-to-Pro upgrade. If you don't have a key yet, you can get a genuine Windows 11 Pro product key from our store.
Before You Start: Requirements
Windows 11 has stricter hardware rules than Windows 10. Check your PC meets Microsoft's Windows 11 system requirements:
- 64-bit processor, 1 GHz or faster with 2 or more cores, on Microsoft's supported CPU list
- 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage
- UEFI firmware with Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0
- DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver
On an existing Windows 10 PC, the PC Health Check app tells you whether it qualifies. If your PC doesn't meet these requirements, Windows 10 Pro is the alternative.
You'll also need a USB flash drive of 8 GB or more for a clean install, your 25-character product key, and a backup of your files.
Option 1: Clean Install of Windows 11 Pro
Use this option for a new PC, a new SSD, or when you want a fresh start.
Step 1: Create a bootable USB drive
- Go to Microsoft's Windows 11 download page and download the Media Creation Tool.
- Run it, accept the licence terms, and choose your language and edition (Windows 11 covers both Home and Pro).
- Select USB flash drive, pick your drive and let the tool finish. This erases everything on the USB drive.

Step 2: Boot from USB and install
- Plug the USB drive into the target PC and restart. Open the boot menu (usually F12, F11, Esc or F8) and choose the USB drive.
- Choose your language and keyboard, then click Install now.
- When asked for a product key, enter your Windows 11 Pro key. This makes setup install the Pro edition automatically.
- Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced), select the target drive (delete old partitions for a truly clean install), and click Next.
- Windows copies files and restarts several times. Then complete the setup screens: region, network, account and privacy options.

Step 3: Confirm activation
Go to Settings → System → Activation. It should show "Windows is activated with a digital licence" or "…with a product key". If you skipped the key during setup, click Change product key and enter it here.

Option 2: Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro
If your PC already runs activated Windows 11 Home, you can upgrade in place. Your files and apps stay where they are. A dedicated Windows 11 Home to Pro upgrade key or a full Pro key both work.
- Save your work and close all apps.
- Open Settings → System → Activation.
- Next to Change product key, click Change and enter your Pro key.
- Click Start when Windows offers to upgrade. The PC installs Pro features and restarts once or twice.
- Check the Activation page: it should now say Windows 11 Pro and activated.
If your Pro key is rejected during the upgrade
Sometimes Windows won't accept a retail Pro key directly on Home. Microsoft publishes a generic Pro key, VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T, which switches the edition to Pro but does not activate it. Enter the generic key first, let the PC restart as Windows 11 Pro, then enter your own key under Change product key to activate.
For IT admins, the same edition switch works from an elevated Command Prompt with changepk.exe /ProductKey VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T, followed by slmgr /ipk YOUR-KEY and slmgr /ato.

Troubleshooting Common Activation Errors
| Error | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 0xC004F050 | The key isn't valid for the installed edition | Make sure you installed Pro, not Home. Use the generic-key method above to switch editions. |
| 0x803FA067 | The Home-to-Pro upgrade can't complete | Disconnect from the internet, enter the generic Pro key, restart, reconnect, then enter your own key. |
| 0xC004C008 | The key has reached its activation limit | Contact us for a replacement key. |
| 0xC004F213 | No licence found after a hardware change | Run the Activation troubleshooter in Settings → System → Activation, and sign in with your Microsoft account. |
| 0x8007007B | Windows is looking for a KMS server | Enter your retail key with slmgr /ipk, then slmgr /ato. |
If online activation keeps failing, contact our support team with a screenshot of the error.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install Windows 11 without a product key?
Yes. Choose "I don't have a product key" during setup, then activate later in Settings. Until you activate, some personalisation options are locked.
Will my Windows 10 Pro key activate Windows 11 Pro?
Generally yes, on compatible hardware. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 11 Pro keys are interchangeable for activation.
Does a Home-to-Pro upgrade delete my files?
No. It's an in-place edition change, though a backup is always wise.
Conclusion
A clean install from USB gives you a fresh Windows 11 Pro system, while the in-place upgrade unlocks Pro on an existing Home PC in minutes. In both cases, activation happens under Settings → System → Activation. Need more than one PC? See our Windows 11 Pro 3-PC pack.
