How SQL Server Standard Is Licensed

How to Install and Activate SQL Server 2022 Standard
- Download the SQL Server 2022 installation media, for example from the Microsoft Evaluation Center.
- Run setup.exe and choose New SQL Server stand-alone installation.
- On the Product Key page, select Enter the product key and type the key from your order email. This sets the edition to Standard.
- Choose features (Database Engine Services, Full-Text Search and so on), then complete setup.
Already running Evaluation or Developer edition? Open SQL Server Installation Center → Maintenance → Edition Upgrade, enter your key, and your databases stay in place.
