Windows Server 2022 Standard – Lifetime License

Windows Server 2022 Standard – Lifetime License is a perpetual, one-time-purchase licence for Windows Server 2022 Standard. There are no renewals or subscription fees: once activated, the server stays licensed for as long as you run it. It's an affordable way to license test labs, homelabs and small-business servers on a stable, well-documented platform.

What "Lifetime License" Means for a Server

A perpetual licence means your right to use Windows Server 2022 doesn't expire. That is different from Microsoft's support lifecycle, which decides how long the software receives updates:

Popular Uses

• Homelabs and certification study for Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and Hyper-V.
• Test and staging servers that mirror existing Server 2022 production systems.
• Small-business servers for file sharing, printing and a domain controller.

Included Server 2022 Features

• Secured-core server — hardware root of trust, firmware protection and virtualisation-based security on supported hardware.
• TLS 1.3 on by default and a built-in DNS-over-HTTPS client.
• SMB AES-256 encryption and SMB compression for faster, safer file transfers.
• Hyper-V improvements, including nested virtualisation on AMD processors.
• Azure hybrid tools — Azure Arc, Azure Backup and Storage Migration Service through Windows Admin Center.

How to Install and Activate

1. Download the Windows Server 2022 ISO from the Microsoft Evaluation Center and install the Desktop Experience or Server Core option.
2. Evaluation installs must be converted before a retail key will activate. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run: DISM /Online /Set-Edition:ServerStandard /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula, then restart when prompted.
3. If the server is already a full (non-evaluation) installation, enter the key under Settings → System → Activation or run slmgr /ipk followed by slmgr /ato.
4. Activation is online, so make sure the server is connected to the internet.
